Welcome to the Building the Bridge Foundation

BTB Foundation is a Syracuse-based nonprofit dedicated to housing stability, dignity, and community responsibility. We empower residents, particularly newly resettled refugees, with the practical skills and hands-on training they need to turn a house into a home. Our mission is to move away from reactive, punitive measures like code enforcement and instead build a sense of ownership and belonging through education.

Our Programs

Homeowner Education & Training
Practical, hands-on workshops for adults covering everything from appliance care and safety to tenant rights and responsibilities.
Youth Volunteer Program
See how the next generation is getting involved in preserving our neighborhoods and supporting their community through service.

The Living Lab: The BTB Houses

Our residential properties, BTB 1 and BTB 2, serve as the active training grounds for our mission. In these homes, we move away from traditional enforcement and instead use real-world maintenance needs as teaching moments for our residents.
BTB House 1
Living spaces on Lodi Street were structurally reimagined to support a large household, ensuring a safe and high-quality home for every family member.
BTB House 2
New BTB2 on Pond St. A stable residential environment is being established to help residents transition from substandard housing while mastering home care.
BTB House 3 (Upcoming)
At-risk properties are identified for structural stabilization to reverse neighborhood decay and improve local safety.
